privacy policy for diagonal calculator

Effective Date: January 1, 2021
Last Updated: September 2026

Life Hack Developer (“we”, “our”, or “us”) develops and maintains the Diagonal Calculator mobile application (the “App” or “Service”). This Service is provided as an ad-supported and freemium application at no initial cost and is intended for use as is.

This page informs users of our policies regarding the collection, use, processing, and disclosure of personal and device information when you use our Service, as well as the choices and rights you have associated with that data.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please do not use our Service.

1. Core Privacy Philosophy & Summary

  • No Account Required: You can use all core calculator and AI features without registering, creating an account, or providing personal identity details (such as your name, email, or phone number).
  • Local-First Storage: Your calculation history, custom settings, scanned diagrams, and voice calculation logs are stored locally on your device storage. We do not maintain a private server or centralized database of your personal calculations.
  • Ephemeral AI Processing: Photos and audio processed for geometric analysis via Google Gemini AI are analyzed in-memory and ephemerally in transit; they are not saved to our servers or used to build user profiles.
  • End-to-End Encryption in Transit: All communications with third-party service providers (Google Gemini API, Google AdMob, Firebase) occur exclusively over secure, encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections.

2. Information Collection and Use

A. Information You Provide & Feature Permissions

To provide advanced geometric calculations, scanning, and voice features, the App requests specific runtime device permissions:

1. AI Blueprint & Camera Sketch Scanner (Camera & Images)

  • Permissions Requested: android.permission.CAMERA and system photo picker access.
  • Purpose: When you use the AI Camera Scanner or choose an image from your photo gallery, the App accesses the camera feed or selected photo strictly to recognize geometric shapes, dimension lines, handwritten notes, diagonals, and angles.
  • AI Processing via Google Generative AI (Gemini API): Images are transmitted securely via encrypted TLS/HTTPS directly to the Google Gemini API for real-time multimodal mathematical analysis.
  • Data Retention: Image processing is ephemeral. The images are processed in-memory to compute geometric parameters and are not permanently stored on our servers. The resulting calculated geometry (such as lengths, angles, and step-by-step proofs) is saved solely to your device’s local Scan History, which you can edit or delete at any time.

2. Hands-Free Job Site Voice Assistant (Microphone & Audio)

  • Permissions Requested: android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO.
  • Purpose: When you tap the microphone button in the Voice Assistant, the App accesses your microphone strictly to transcribe spoken construction math and geometry queries (such as rafter cuts, stair calculations, scale conversions, or material estimates).
  • Audio Processing: Audio streams are processed ephemerally using Google Speech Recognition / Google Gemini API to convert your speech into mathematical queries.
  • Data Retention: Audio recordings are not saved, listened to, or permanently stored on our servers. Once the text transcription and mathematical calculation are generated, the audio data is immediately discarded. The resulting calculation card is saved only to your local on-device session log.

B. Automatically Collected Technical & Analytical Data

1. App Analytics (Firebase Analytics)

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how users navigate the App and to improve stability and user experience. This service collects pseudonymous, aggregated information, such as:

  • App opens, session durations, and screen transitions (e.g., Triangle Calculator, AI Scanner Hub, Shape Studio).
  • General device information (device model, operating system version, screen resolution, locale/language).
  • Feature interactions (e.g., unit conversions, formula lookups, prompt chip taps).
  • Note: Analytics data is aggregated and does not contain personal identity information.

2. Crash Diagnostics & Stability (Firebase Crashlytics)

If the App experiences an unexpected crash or system error, diagnostic information is automatically collected through Firebase Crashlytics. This data includes:

  • Stack traces, error codes, and memory state at the time of the error.
  • Device model, manufacturer, Android OS version, and App build version.
  • Timestamp of the event. This information is used strictly to identify bugs and release technical patches.

3. Advertising Data (Google AdMob)

The App displays advertisements through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and process device information to deliver advertisements, prevent fraud, and comply with ad frequency limits. Data collected may include:

  • Google Advertising ID (GAID / AAID).
  • IP address (used for coarse geographic location and fraud prevention).
  • Ad engagement metrics (ad impressions, clicks, dismissals).
  • Diagnostic data regarding ad delivery.

Consent & Personalized Ads: In regions subject to regulations such as GDPR (European Economic Area/UK) or CCPA/CPRA (California), the App displays a Consent Management Platform (Google User Messaging Platform / CMP) allowing you to consent to, customize, or decline personalized advertising and tracking identifiers. Where consent is withheld, only non-personalized or contextual ads are served.

4. In-App Purchases (Google Play Billing)

The App offers an optional one-time purchase or subscription to remove advertisements (“Pro Version”). All financial and transaction details are processed directly and securely by Google Play Billing. We never receive, process, or store your credit card details, bank account numbers, or billing addresses. We only receive confirmation of purchase status from Google Play to activate your ad-free experience.

3. Third-Party Service Providers

We partner with industry-standard third-party service providers who process data in accordance with their respective privacy policies:

4. Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Disclosure

Our App incorporates generative artificial intelligence capabilities powered by the Google Gemini API to assist in reading blueprints, sketches, and answering job site geometry questions.

  • Verification Recommended: AI outputs are generated through probabilistic models. While designed for high precision, handwriting, low-light imagery, or distorted blueprint angles may result in approximations. Users should always verify physical measurements and calculations before cutting materials or beginning construction.
  • No Model Training on Private Data: Images and audio transmitted through our API integration are processed for inference purposes and are not used by us to train proprietary public machine learning models.

5. Security & Data Protection

We implement rigorous technical and organizational safeguards to ensure your data is protected:

  • Encryption in Transit: All communications between the App and external endpoints (Google Gemini AI, Firebase, Google AdMob) are strictly encrypted using TLS 1.2/1.3 (HTTPS).
  • Local Sandboxing: App preferences, calculation histories, and cached results are kept in Android’s protected internal app sandbox, inaccessible to other unprivileged applications on your device.

6. Data Retention & Your Rights (Access and Deletion)

Because we do not maintain accounts or user databases on remote servers, you maintain complete direct control over your data:

  • Clearing Calculation History: You can clear your calculation history at any time via the in-app menu () > Clear History or Reset All Settings.
  • Deleting Scanned Diagrams & Audio Logs: You can swipe to delete individual items or clear the entire history directly in the AI Scanner Hub and Voice Assistant screens.
  • Complete Data Deletion: Uninstalling the App immediately and permanently erases all locally stored data, preferences, calculation logs, and cached images from your device.
  • Privacy Rights (GDPR / CCPA / CPRA): Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, port, restrict, or delete your personal information, or opt out of the sale or sharing of personal data for targeted advertising. You can exercise ad choices via the in-app consent menu or your device’s Google Settings (Settings > Google > Ads > Reset or Delete Advertising ID).

7. Children’s Privacy

Our Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Union). We do not knowingly collect or solicit personally identifiable information from children. If we discover that a child has provided us with personal information, we will immediately take steps to purge any such data. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect enhancements in our App features, changes in third-party services, or relevant regulatory updates. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last Updated” revision date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
