Privacy Policy for Expense Manager
Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Expense Manager ("the App", "we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and discloses information when you use the App.
1. Information We Collect
Expense Manager is designed so that your core financial records are primarily stored locally on your device. Depending on how you use the App, the following information may be collected or processed:
a. Information you enter into the App
This includes transaction records, amounts, categories, descriptions or notes, dates, account names, custom categories, currency preferences, reminder settings, and other app preferences. This information is stored locally on your device and may be included in backups you create.
b. Security-related information
If you enable PIN protection, your PIN is stored locally using encrypted storage on your device. If you enable biometric unlock, biometric authentication is handled by your device/operating system. The App does not store your biometric templates.
c. Google account information
If you choose to sign in with Google for backup and restore features, the App may access basic Google account information associated with your sign-in, such as your name and email address.
d. Backup files
If you use the backup and restore features, the App may create backup files containing your app data. These backups may be saved to a location you choose on your device or, if you choose Google Drive backup, to your Google Drive account.
e. Notification content for auto-detected transactions
If you enable the auto-detect transactions feature and grant notification access, the App reads notification titles and content from supported financial or messaging notifications on your device in order to detect and parse transaction information. Parsed transaction details may then be saved locally in the App. Raw notification content is processed on-device for this feature and is not intentionally sent to our own servers.
f. Location information
If you enable location permission for auto-detected transactions, the App may access your device's precise or approximate location to generate a human-readable place name for a transaction. The App is designed to store the derived place name with the transaction rather than raw latitude/longitude coordinates.
g. Analytics, app usage, and device identifiers
The App uses Firebase Analytics, which may automatically collect app interaction data, app and device metadata, and identifiers such as Firebase Installation ID and, where available, advertising or device identifiers, in accordance with Google/Firebase documentation.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to operate and improve the App, including to:
provide expense tracking, categorization, reporting, and summaries;
secure the App with PIN and biometric features;
enable local backup and restore;
enable optional Google Drive backup and restore;
enable optional Google Sign-In for backup features;
enable optional auto-detection of transactions from notifications;
optionally attach a place name to auto-detected transactions if location is enabled; and
understand app usage and improve the App through analytics.
3. Local Storage and Backups
Most of your financial records are stored locally on your device. If you create a local backup, the backup file is saved to the location you choose. If you use Google Drive backup, the backup file is stored in your Google Drive account. We do not operate our own backend servers for storing your transaction database.
4. Third-Party Services
The App uses third-party Google services, including:
Google Sign-In, for optional account authentication;
Google Drive API, for optional backup and restore to your Google Drive account; and
Firebase Analytics, for analytics and app usage measurement.
These services may process information in accordance with their own terms and privacy policies. Google's Privacy Policy is available at [https://policies.google.com/privacy](https://policies.google.com/privacy).
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not store your transaction database on our own servers. However, information may be processed by Google and Firebase services when you use optional features such as Google Sign-In, Google Drive backup, or Firebase Analytics.
We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or if necessary to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of the App, our users, or others.
6. Your Choices and Controls
You can choose whether to use optional features such as Google Sign-In, Google Drive backup, auto-detect transactions, location tagging, reminders, PIN lock, and biometric unlock.
You can also:
sign out of your Google account inside the App;
disable auto-detect transactions;
deny or revoke notification and location permissions through your device settings;
delete local data through the App where supported, or by clearing app storage/uninstalling the App; and
delete backup files from your device or your Google Drive account.
Because we do not store your local transaction database on our own servers, we generally cannot delete data from your device or Google Drive on your behalf.
7. Data Retention
Locally stored app data remains on your device until you delete it, clear app storage, or uninstall the App. Backup files remain in the location you chose until they are deleted or overwritten. Data collected by Google/Firebase services is retained according to their own policies and settings.
8. Data Security
We use reasonable measures designed to protect information processed by the App, including encrypted local storage for PIN data and optional device biometric authentication. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the Effective Date above. Your continued use of the App after changes become effective means you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
